Week 4 has been another busy week at Uni. Don’t know about you, but I’ve entered assignment season.
This week has been predominately spent working on my assignments which have been going OK. No one has gotten hurt yet, life is still good, but I think Week 5 will be a little bit hectic.
My classes in Week 4
Going into this semester, I had very high hopes for ZOOL30006 Animal Behaviour, and didn’t have much of an expectation for ZOOL30004 Evolution and the Human Condition. And it’s funny how things turned out.
Animal Behaviour is OK. Honestly – I’m finding it really dry and am waiting for the interesting bits to kick in. The lectures don’t really transition very well to the next one, and I don’t see the connection between them. And I find it incredibly hard when there are no lecture notes beforehand. So we all go into the lecture blind, not knowing what to expect.
I am sad that this subject isn’t as exciting and stimulating as what I imagined it to be. I’m sitting in the lecture, bored to tears, and the picture above shows how much I got out one of the lectures. Nothing. I really hope that this subject picks up over the semester.
And with my Evolution classes…I LOVE them. I really really do. The main lecturer, Theresa Jones, is just AMAZING and I don’t ever want her to leave. The subject itself is so fascinating and interesting. If you show me a picture of a monkey or ape, I can tell you what group of primates they belong to, just from their appearance! Not only that, Theresa’s notes are so helpful and clearly laid out. I heart her so much.
And as for my Marine Biology subject (ZOOL30008), I am still working on my lab report for that and it is driving me insane. I really really wished there was more support when it comes to the stats and data component. I struggle so much with it, I don’t think it has been taught very well at all in my science degree, and I just don’t know what I’m doing with all these numbers!
Grumble grumble grumble.
Week four on campus
Although I was mainly locked up in the library working on assignments, I managed to sneak out to check out a couple of events around campus.
UMSU Band and BBQ featuring The League of Sideshow Superstars
It was really cool. Nice one UMSU Activities.
Pakistan Society & the Greek Association
These guys were doing their thang on South Lawn. And I really need to sign up to the Greek club because they had a roast spit going on. Yes, A ROAST SPIT! Sign me up!
I never get a chance to catch the Welfare BBQ because it’s on during class. But this week I left my Thursday tutorial early (because it was super boring, and it was just another video) and got myself some free breakkie – which was delicious! Thanks Welfaeries.
Other miscellaneous happenings
I’ve started volunteering again with one of the zoology Masters student with her project on these Tawny Dragons at Uni. I really hope I get to work on these guys when I finish my undergrad.
Farrago apologised for getting my name wrong in their previous edition. Apology accepted, thanks! :) You can check out the article I wrote for them about strange deep sea fish here.
In other news, our Facebook book has hit 2,0oo+ likes! Yipee! Thank you all.
Have a good week everyone!
