After another week jam-packed with assignments, many of you may have missed what was going on campus. But never fear! We’re here to let you know what you might have missed.
Here’s our week 8 campus roundup:
Melbourne University Italian Social Club Antipasti Lunch
For their second event of the semester, the Italian Social Club threw an antipasti event to all their members. Bocconcini, prosciutto, salami and other antipasti treats were served by the club, as well as classical and modern Italian tunes. Their next event will be a screening of La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful), and will be held in conjunction with the Film Society on Week 10 (Friday 15 May).
UMSU International Night Market
The Night Market was held on Thursday at the Concrete Lawns. It offered world delicacies such as Char Kuay Teow (fried flat noodle) from Malaysia, Kimchi Fried Rice from Korea, and Crepes from France. The event also had many performances from our own students, with a magic show, acapella, dance performances and bands included in the lineup. In addition, there was a bazaar with cool vintage clothes on sale, a photo booth where you could take pictures with your favourite stars, and the game Gladiator where you could “fight” your friends without the consequences.
2015 Eng Ball
The well renowned Eng Ball was back for another year. Hosted by MUESC (Melbourne University Engineering Students’ Club), Eng Ball was held at San Remo Ballroom with the theme of ‘International Relations’ and each table was given a specific country to dress up to.
Each ticket included a three course meal, and unlimited beer, wine and spirits, and the after party was at everyone’s favourite spot, Persa. Ridhima, Eng Ball attendee, highly recommends everyone who’s never been to Eng Ball to go next year!
Farrago Edition 3
UMSU’s Media Department launched their newest edition of Farrago in Week 8. Edition 3 of Farrago is now on the stands in Union House and around campus!
UMSU Tuesday Band & BBQ
Week 8’s Tuesday Band and BBQ featured Wadaiko Rindo, a Japanese drum ensemble, to the North Court stage. It was great to see some diversity in the performers at these BBQs.
Wednesday Farmers Market
The sunny weather pulled in a good crowd for the market in Week 8. If you are stuck for choice on what to get at the market, check out Mallika and Sonia’s market recommendations in this post.
UMSU Welfare Free Breakfast
UMSU Welfare was back in Week 8, serving up their usual Thursday free breakfast to the masses from 8.30-10.30am on South Court. Bacon and egg sandwiches, pancakes, and fruit and cereal are up for grabs.
Ticket Inspectors are on the Prowl
Ticket inspectors. Ticket inspectors, everywhere.
Everyone would know this by now, but our tram stops are outside of the free tram zone. Don’t forget to touch on your myki, and if you are carrying a concession myki – don’t forget your concession card too. If you need assistance appealing a fine, UMSU’s legal service can help. It’s a free service, and you can book an appointment here.
UMSU Inaugural Escape
THE BUTCHER GOT US!
Guess what happens when a group of mentors and mentees are locked in a dark room, trying to escape from a butcher-killer? *gasps* Unfortunately for us, we’re not able to escape his knives and creepy laughter :( The Inaugural Escape is hosted by the UMSU mentoring network for the mentors and mentees to bond and have fun together!
Intercollegiate Rowing Regatta
After several weeks of intense training, early morning starts and trips to, fro and along the Yarra waters, Melbourne Uni’s college rowing teams congregated for the biggest sporting event of the year – The Intercollegiate Rowing Regatta. It was a beautiful, warm (ish) morning, teeming with college spirit, hot chocolate and toasty breakfasts along the river bank. Congratulations go to all the rowers, captains and coxes, coaches and all the fantastic supporters who made it down to the river!
A big thank you to our contributors this week: Daphane, Ridhima, Thiashya, Leanne, Natalia and Melbourne University Italian Social Club!
